Sir: Your dream of ending bin Laden’s evil dream of a world shaped by illegal violence is good.  (Now Kill His Dream ECONOMIST vol. 399 no. 8732 May 7, 2011 page )Extra-judicial killing by a group in the name of justice of a person at their mercy is called lynching.  Involving authorities makes matters worse.  He was at the mercy of the orders of those Seals irrespective of his attitude.  It would have been better to put him on trial, not because he deserved it but because we do it.  Nobody is more important than American freedom.  That seems now to be another tarnished dream.

Sincerely,

M. Linton Herbert
